It's that time of year that Fred takes a break from events and starts focusing all of his attention on the winery getting ready for the upcoming harvest. Time to do that last racking and bottling to clear the floor for fermenters. Fortunately, the cool foggy summer is buying us some time. Harvest will likely start 2-3 weeks later then normal. Let's hope for late rains this year!

On August 20, 2010, we will be participating in the annual fundraising gal for our very favorite local theater. The REP has provided Shakespeare in the park for 17 years and we've become huge fans....or more accurately our daughter has as an active member in their Young Actors Conservatory! We love what the Rep does for our community and happy to be supporting the event.

The event will include a picnic-style dinner, an assortment of wines (including Scherrer!), live music, a live auction and the performance of The Comedy of Errors. Don't miss your chance to enjoy an unforgettable evening while supporting our favorite local theater!

The Dry Creek Kitchen has created a series of interactive seminars and wine tasting where you will be able to taste, listen to winemakers speak about various topics of interest. The goal of the seminars is to be educational, fun and approachable to the novice wine lover but also engaging to the more advanced wine taster.

On August 14, Fred will be joining the Sonoma Chardonnay seminar along with Dave Ramey of Ramey Wines and James Hall of Patz & Hall.

The seminar package includes admission to the tasting plus a 3-course prix fixe dinner at Dry Creek Kitchen. *Seminar wines may be purchased for dinner at retail price.

$65 per person and seating is limited to keep the experience more intimate.

Pinot Days has quickly become one of our favorite events, so Scherrer wines will certainly be at Pinot Days San Francisco on June 27. While Fred won't be there to pour (sorry, Maui won), we will be well represented by Tom Klassen who has helped us out at harvest for the last few years and has well earned Fred's respect and appreciation for his thoughtful approach to wine making. We are pleased to say that we've been invited to attend the 28th Annual Kapalua Food & Wine Festival on Maui this year June 24-27. Fred will be on two seminar panels this year, "Heal the World with Pinot Noir" and "Zins and Cheese". Our wines will be featured at the Grand Tasting and the well known Seafood Festival on Sunday evening. You can learn more about the event at their web site.

Fred will be Honolulu for a few days before the Kapalua Food & Wine Festival and is very excited about doing several warm up dinners!

The first will be at d.k Steak House on Tuesday June 22. They will be offering a separate winemaker dinner menu that evening in addition to their regular ala carte menu from 5:30 - 10:00 pm. The menu will feature 3 different courses by 3 different chefs! Each course will be paired with Scherrer wines. Fred will be on hand that evening to individually visit with each participating table. We've done this format before and it really allows for a more personal experience to accompany your meal. What fun!

We were recently contacted by Outstanding in the Field to join one of their roving culinary adventures at farmer David Retsky's County Line farm. As if the location alone (this is literally in our backyard on the Sonoma/Marin County line) or learning that Bell Weather Farms Cheese and Liberty Duck would be featured wouldn't be enough... we then saw Chef Mellisa Perello's menu and we knew that Scherrer Wines would be the perfect compliment.

The Farmhouse is one of our very favorite restaurants in the Russian River Valley and we're excited to be invited by Master Sommelier Geoff Kruth to be part of his 2010 Winemaker Dinner Series at the Farmhouse Inn on March 4th. Yes, it's true, Fred is planning for his annual week long winter trip to the Windy City for Feb 8 - 12.

We are thrilled to announce that Scherrer Pinot will be featured as part of the launch of Pinot Days 2010 in sunny southern California on January 17th. Fred will be on hand to pour the wines and so please come on by and say hello!

We will be one of 4 featured wineries during a special dinner at Sage on the Coast Saturday, January 16th. Chef Rich Mead's fresh ingredients and light touch make him the perfect chef to create courses that complement pinot noir. Enjoy an incredible, four course, pinot-paired dinner. Fred will be Honolulu for a few days before the Kapalua Food & Wine Festival and is very excited about doing another tasting and dinner at Vino with Master Sommolier Chuck Furuya with Chef Keith Endo's fabulous Eurasion menu pairings. Some of you may remember that our visit there last year and Chuck's approach to enjoying wine inspired Fred's discussion of "deliciousness" in the July newsletter.

Wine Tasting at 5:30 Chuck and Fred will be presenting 5 different Scherrer wines including 3 Library wines we're sending over in advance. This is a great chance to taste and learn about each of the wines in a relaxed and informative way.

Winemaker Dinner at 7:30 Each of 3 courses will be paired with a different wine followed by dessert. This is a unique opportunity to taste a few rare wines from the library! Many of you are familiar with the wines Fred made from the Fort Ross Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast, but did you know he made all of their wines the first few years, including Pinotage? Additionally, under the Girasole label a Syrah was made for Chuck and several of his colleagues and friends.
